c1900 Black Forest Victorian souvenir of Davos

c1900 A hand carved souvenir box from Davos in Switzerland. Davos was a popular destination for the Victorian rich and ailing because the microclimate in the high valley was deemed excellent by doctors and recommended for lung disease patients. Arthur Conan Doyle wrote an article about skiing in Davos in 1899 which added to it's popularity. Measuring 110mm x 80mm x 45mm the box sits on four square feet with carved fluting to the sides and inset carving of Edelweiss flowers. The lid is hinged and there is a small area of damage tithe wood surround to one hing but this could be repaired and does not detract from the quality of this box.
